The Colin Dommett Trial
moved from traditional venue 30 mins down the road near Redruth, but that
did not stop the usual Saturday night out in the Central Bar, Newquay. So
the good news for the sidecars was a late start, letting the solos go first
with the sidecars away after 10.30.
The first group was a steady start, but the last pair gave an indication of
what was to come, a step chair high climb between the trees, but Tucky and
Sparkes showed they meant business with a very aggressive, fast and committed
clean, that could not be matched. This was also the last local ace Seemond
Stephens saw of the trial as he retired with clutch problems, joining the
Kimbers who didn't even make the first section before they ran out of sparks.
Through the 2nd and 3rd groups Tucky traded marks with the Luskys after Jon
missed some markers and Sam was left sat on the floor when one of his straps
broke.
The trial then moved on to rocky groups and the marks totted up, Luscombe
carried his outfit through the first pair, and managed the step in the 4th
only matched by Lee Granby and his Manx passenger Ealish Baxter after watching
Jon and Matt collect 3 fives, it was game on for the win, but just up the
hill Luscombe picked up a 5 on a step where Tuck cleaned, and they had enough
in hand to five the last section, and record win number 2 of 2010, and Luscombes
settled for their 3rd runners up spot.
The Clubman route was also decided on the rocks, with first round winner Peter
Dale and Barry Pocock proving southerners can ride rocks to beat Phil Sparkes
and Roger Tuck into 3rd with Dave Tuck and Steve Chandler picking up a great
2nd.
In the intermediate class round 2 winners and series leaders Adrian and Arron
Smith from the Isle of Man could not follow up their win 2 weeks ago, and
gave best to 2008 Champions now back together after a year off in 2009 Tony
Crabtree and Jamie Howe, who really impressed on the rocky sections in the
4th group escaping without a five, but it was a good job they like Tucks had
done enough as they also fived the last section.
The Championship now moves on to the Welsh Trophy in April.
