Southern Motorcycle Club Sidecar results 10th February 2008

The 2nd round of the Southern Motorcycle Clubs Sidecar club championship took place at Garey Moar last Sunday. With 11 outfits signed on for a challenging trial. The trial was set out with 8 sections over 3 laps confined to the gully area. Due to weather from previous days this seen the trail to be very slippery, muddy and wet.

With a slow start all experts ‘5ed’ the first section, seeing a tie between all. The first split happen on the 2nd section when father and son team Adrian and Aaron Smith gained confidence and cleaned putting them in an early lead. Half way though Section 5 saw Gary Flowers and Anthony Smith an early retirement, due to an injury to the passenger over a very tricky rock section.

After a tough Lap 1, Jonathan Kelly and Ealish Baxter set the bench mark for 1st place with a loss of 24 marks. A total loss of 30 marks saw a joint 2nd position to include Jamie Teare / Jane Birchall and The Smiths.

Lap 2 - Jonathan Kelly and Ealish Baxter increased their lead by 1 mark with a total loss of 10 compared with Teare’s 11 and The Smiths total 16.

Lap 3 – Saw the 2 two top outfits drop an even 15 each and the smiths drop a total of 21 still keeping them in 3rd position.

The Clubmen class followed the same route for the majority of the way with a few alterations on a couple of sections. An early lead was taken on the first lap by Brian Christian and Stand in passenger Chris Molyneux with a loss of 27, closely followed by Gerry Hannay and Paul Watterson on the new 4 stroke Beta with a loss of 28, bringing in to 3rd with a loss of 31 by Craig Baxter and James Caine.

Lap – 2 A close fort battle on this lap brought Baxter and Caine to the front with a 1 mark advantage. Leaving Hannay / Watterson and Christian / Molyeux with joint 2nd position.

Lap 3 – Saw Baxter and Caine increase their lead with a loss of 20, Hannay & Watterson loss of 26 and Christian and Molyneux with a loss of 34.

There was a close fort battle with new comer Jason Mc Nee & Hilary Swan and Brian & Stuart Bedford both finishing on a total loss of 113 marks this brought it down to the closest to the first clean.
